Quality Engineer

Targeted start date: Immediately. Relocation provided. 


We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Quality Engineer to join our team. In this position, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality of our products across the entire business. Collaborating closely with R&D, Production Engineering, and Assembly / Build teams and Supply Chain, you will take ownership of quality, from prototype through pre-production to serial production stages. The ideal candidate will have a background in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or other robotics related engineering principles, and bring hands-on experience and expertise to the table. We are looking for individuals with a proactive "get-things-done" attitude, who excel in both long-term strategic planning and day-to-day execution of quality tasks.


1X mission is to create an abundant supply of physical labor through safe, intelligent androids that work alongside humans. Since 2014, we’ve designed our products with large-scale manufacturing in mind, so we can produce androids at a high enough volume to meet the world’s labor demand.
Our wheeled Android EVE, is engineered to work with you, from guarding to logistics, and our bipedal model, NEO, is designed to become a household android with broad deployment in various applications. Our products will understand both natural language and physical space, so they can complete useful tasks in any environment.

  • Drive design, process and tooling projects across manufacturing and production to optimize efficiency,safety and quality.

  • Conduct technically complex and challenging root cause analysis throughout the entire value chain, encompassing design, part sourcing, and assembly

  • Develop and maintain quality processes to facilitate continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. Including but not limited to ticket tracking systems, supplier audits, part rejections and investigations.

  • Establish relationships with suppliers and sub-manufacturers across the globe to collaborate on identifying , resolving and mitigating quality issues.

  • Gain experience by interfacing with software, controls, and AI fields and improve all aspects of your technical skills.

  • Collaborate with engineers from different fields including R&D, Software, Production, Electronics, Controls and AI.

Within one month, you will…

  • Engage in root cause investigations on a variety of technical subjects.

  • Familiarize yourself with internal processes and quality control systems such as the internal ticket tracking system, part rejections and first article inspection.

  • Assist in identifying areas of improvement and implementing solutions aimed at preventing quality issues from occurring across production, manufacturing and supply chain.

Within three months, you will…

  • Lead initiatives to improve production and manufacturing processes to increase quality,reliability and repeatability.

  • Cultivate relationships with suppliers and sub-manufacturers through joint investigation and collaboration.

  • Conduct root cause investigation and implement corrective actions both internally and externally.

  • Develop and implement quality initiatives and training programs.

Within one year, you will…

  • Drive continuous improvement by implementing and ensuring the adherence to quality standards and processes.

  • Lead cross-functional teams in developing and implementing quality initiatives across the entire value chain.

  • Play a key role in shaping strategic plans and departmental objectives.

  • Establish yourself as a subject matter expert in quality engineering across a variety of sub-systems such as actuators, harnessing, electrical components, machined parts and joints/body of NEO.


Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the quality team to enhance quality standards across operations in Europe, the US, and with global suppliers, including conducting audits and implementing quality control systems.

  • Assist the Production and Manufacturing teams in improving processes and routines through technical expertise, focusing on efficiency, safety, and adherence to quality standards

  • Work with the Supply Chain team to strengthen relationships with suppliers and sub-manufacturers, conducting assessments and audits to ensure compliance with our quality requirements

  • Develop and maintain high-quality documentation, such as quality manuals, procedures, and reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and facilitating continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Conduct technically complex and challenging root cause analysis on a wide variety of subjects across the 1X business.

REQUIREMENTS

Must-Haves:

  • Education: within Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or similar

  • Experience: Hands-on experience and achievements working within the following:
    • Quality Engineering

    • Manufacturing Engineering

  • Communication & Collaboration: Ability to coordinate and lead cross functional engineering teams across, design, manufacturing and supply chain with a focus on agile practices.

  • Problem Solving: Experience using quality frameworks for resolving technically complex issues for example SixSigma, 8D, Ishikawa, SPC, FMEA, 5 Whys, etc.

  • Technical Experience: Experience in any of the following:
    • Machined parts

    • Stamping

    • Casting

    • 3D printing

    • Wire harnessing

    • PCBA

    • Electrical testing and inspection

    • Plastic injection parts

Nice-To-Haves:

  • Experience working in a start-up environment 

  • Quality Initiatives: Experience developing and implementing quality initiatives, training and/or strategy.

  • Experience managing non-conformance ticket triaging and resolution.

  • Supplier Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate with suppliers domestic and international, bonus points for experience conducting joint investigations, audits or FAI with suppliers.

  • Knowledge of quality certifications and IEC/UL/ISO standards

  • Experience in Electronics or Mechanical design

  • Experience with Quality Engineering in a technically complex scaling product.

  • Experience working at a startup or LEAN team.

  • Ability to travel 10 - 20%
