Shift Supervisor – Robot Operations
Target start date: Immediately.
About 1X
Founded in 2015, 1X creates safe, intelligent humanoid robots that expand the world’s supply of productive labor. From custom motor coils to cutting-edge AI, every part of our robots is designed and manufactured in-house. At 1X you’ll own real projects, be recognized for impact, and rewarded on merit.
About the role
As live customer deployments scale, each shift must collect high-quality data and keep robots online without compromising safety. A Shift Supervisor owns one core shift, guiding 2–4 Robot Operator Leads and their teams (≈ 25–40 operators total). You’ll convert daily data-collection goals into action, unblock teams in real time, and deliver clear, data-driven hand-offs to the next shift and to the Data Collection Manager.
Responsibilities:
Run the Shift
Monitor live dashboards (e.g., minutes of data, robot uptime, intervention rate).
Rebalance tasks or staffing as needed to stay on target.
2. Develop People
Coach Operator Leads and model best practices in teleoperation and annotation.
Foster a culture of ownership, learning, and continuous improvement.
3. Safeguard Quality & Safety
Audit adherence to SOPs for teleoperation, labeling, and safety.
Intervene immediately if quality or safety standards begin to drift.
4. Deliver Reporting
Prepare an end-of-shift summary covering collected minutes, annotation accuracy, and any incidents.
Share a concise write-up with leadership.
5. Own First-Level Decisions
Act autonomously on task reprioritization, minor tool tweaks, routine robot-fault troubleshooting, coaching, or verbal warnings.
Escalate systemic hardware failures, safety/security issues, schedule changes, or anything requiring Engineering, Facilities, or HR.
6. Spot & Solve Pain Points
Surface recurring issues to the Data Collection Manager.
Assist in piloting new workflows, UI tweaks, or training modules.
7. Champion Collaboration
Proactively sync with Engineering, Service, and Facilities teams to ensure your shift has the context and resources needed to succeed.
